Mountain Biking

Big Rock Loop is one of two trails on the northern side of the Forks Area Trail System (FATS), which in all is often considered one of the best mountain biking destinations in South Carolina. This particular trail gets its name due to several rock outcroppings along the way. This trail, along with its companion trail, Tower, is steeper and a bit more rocky than those to the south. The width of the trail is also a bit more narrow. Ultimately such makes for a more technical experience than the southern trails, but not by too much. Due to its steeper ascents and descents one will also find this trail to be more physically demanding, but also be rewarded with moments of greater speed. In fact, Big Rock Loop has one of the longest downhill sections in the park, though the precursor to such is obviously an uphill section. All in all, these trails don't flow quite as well as the southern network. Regardless, most would say they're not to be missed.
